McLean Little League will kick off the competition for its 70th anniversary season on Saturday, April 5 with the traditional 9 a.m. parade from McLean High School to the league’s three-field complex on Westmoreland Street.
“We are expecting an exciting day of events, starting with the parade,” league official Autumn Price told FFXnow. “It will be a fun morning and day.”
Following the parade, a program and special events start at 9:30 a.m. Among the guests on hand will be Screech, the mascot of the Washington Nationals.
Members of nearby high school baseball and softball teams will be recognized at the event, with Little League games following the opening ceremony.
Food trucks from Mama’s Donut Bites and Sugusto Sandwich & Coffee will be on site during the event. In addition, families will vote to choose the league’s first mascot. Gifts and prizes will be awarded throughout.
Parking will be available at McLean High and the Kent Gardens Recreation Club pool just south of the baseball complex, which is located at 1836 Westmoreland Street.
McLean Little League held a family-night gala last Friday (March 14) on field No. 2 at the Westmoreland Street complex. The event included numerous activities.
It served as a fundraiser to support the $2 million cost required to modernize a field at Lewinsville Park. That field augments the three Little League fields on Westmoreland Street.
