Update 12 p.m. — Police said the alleged assailant, a 15-year-old, has been arrested and will be charged with malicious wounding. The 16-year-old who was stabbed has had their condition downgraded to stable. Both teens were students at the school.
While Fairfax County Public Schools are testing out metal detectors at schools, Superintendent Michelle Reid confirmed that West Potomac High School did not have metal detectors in place.
Earlier: Police said a teenager was taken to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening after he was stabbed at West Potomac High School this morning around 9:30 a.m.
Police said a teen male suspect is in custody. Scanner traffic indicated a person might have been stabbed in the hallway of the school.
The school is currently locked down, as of 10 a.m., with police searching for other persons of interest that may have been involved, per scanner traffic.
Officers are on scene of a stabbing at West Potomac High School in Belle Haven.
