A 22-year-old man was arrested last week after allegedly assaulting a worker and police officers while attempting to rob a CVS Pharmacy store in Fairfax City.

Officers responded to the drug store at 10090 Fairfax Blvd at around 5:28 p.m. last Friday (May 2) for a report of a robbery in progress, according to the City of Fairfax Police Department.

“Investigation revealed that an unknown male assaulted an employee, destroyed the employee’s property, and stole items from the business,” the police department said in a news release on Monday (May 5).

The officers found a man “nearby” who was believed to be the suspect, but when they moved to arrest him, he assaulted three of the officers and tried to take a Taser from one of them, police say.

The man was ultimately treated at a hospital for injuries described as “minor,” though the police department doesn’t explicitly state whether he was injured before or during the arrest. The officers and CVS employee also reportedly sustained minor injuries.

According to Fairfax City police, an investigation found that the man was drunk at the time and had provided false identification to the responding officers.

After receiving treatment at the hospital, the man was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with robbery, disarming a law enforcement officer, three counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer, property destruction, disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, providing false identifying information to law enforcement, and being drunk in public.

The CVS employee “declined to press charges for assault,” Fairfax City police said.

The man remains in custody at Fairfax County’s jail after a bond hearing yesterday (Tuesday), per online Fairfax County General District Court records. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 29.
