UPDATED: Missing man found dead after extensive police search in Fairfax City

Update — Joshua Obregon Pacheco was found dead Saturday morning (May 17), Fairfax City police announced.

“Please keep his family in your thoughts,” the City of Fairfax County Police Department said. “No foul play is suspected.”

Earlier: Local police are searching for a man who has reportedly been seen carrying a knife near George Mason University’s Fairfax campus.

Joshua Obregon Pacheco, a 25-year-old man, was reported as missing, the City of Fairfax Police Department said around 7 p.m. He was last seen walking in the area of the 10200 block of Forest Avenue.

“There is a large police presence in the area while officers attempt to locate Joshua,” the department said.

George Mason University police are assisting with the search. Pacheco is believed to be “armed with a knife” and has suffered self-inflicted injuries, GMU said in a statement, advising people to avoid approaching him and instead contact the police.

Fairfax City police are directing any community members who see Pacheco to call 911 or its non-emergency number at 703-385-7924.

“Joshua maybe armed with a knife,” the Fairfax City police department said. “For his safety and others please do not approach.”
