California Fish Grill diving into Franconia as chain scales up regional presence

California Fish Grill is coming to Franconia.

Building plans for the 2,961-square-foot restaurant at the Festival at Manchester Lakes shopping center were submitted to Fairfax County in mid-July.

Scheduled to open in mid-November, the Franconia location at 7003A Manchester Blvd is one of several that the West Coast seafood chain intends to bring to the D.C. area as part of its first foray to the East Coast, the Washington Business Journal reported.

Other locations around the region, including one in Fairfax City and another in Rockville, are also scheduled to open this fall.

The restaurant’s menu includes a variety of seafood, as the name suggests, from shrimp bowls to grilled salmon.

Started in Gardena, California, in 1998, California Fish Grill now has nearly 60 locations on the West Coast, all of them company-owned. CEO Bob Holden told the WBJ that they hope to open more than a dozen restaurants in the D.C. area as part of the new East Coast expansion.

The seafood restaurant will be moving into the former Baja Fresh space at Festival at Manchester Lakes, which has seen some turnover lately. The shopping center has welcomed Firebirds Wood Fired Grill and First Watch within the past year, and New York-based food hall Wonder is under construction just a few doors down.
