The local baker behind Dano’s Granola can now, once again, call Reston her personal and professional home.
Relocating from Chantilly, the snack business will officially unveil its new retail shop and production space at 11495 Sunset Hills Road, Suite 105, with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon on Sept. 6, owner and founder Dania Abimourched says.
“This is a special milestone for us as a woman-owned, gluten-free, and vegan bakery committed to creating clean, nutrient-rich products for our community,” she told FFXnow.
A resident of Reston for more than three decades, Abimourched originally started Dano’s Granola as a home-based business after her oldest of three sons was diagnosed with dairy and gluten allergies. Granola soon became a go-to snack for the family, thanks to its healthiness and versatility, according to Dano’s Granola’s website.
Abimourched began selling granola bites and other treats at the Reston Farmers Market in December 2018 before opening a small brick-and-mortar location at the Chantilly Square shopping center (4520 Daly Drive, Suite 100) in February 2020.
At nearly 2,000 square feet, the new space in Reston’s Junction office park represents a major expansion in size and production capabilities from the old Chantilly spot, which was only 650 square feet, Abimourched says.
The granola shop will open its doors for its grand opening in the new location at 11:45 a.m. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon with Fairfax County business development officials and the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, customers can try some granola samples and wine pairings.
The Dano’s team will unveil a new product line to go with its existing mixes, chocolate mousse pie, breakfast cookies and other snacks. There will also be music, giveaways and behind-the-scenes tours of the expanded production space as part of the grand opening festivities, which are scheduled to continue until 3 p.m.
The event does have an entry fee of $5, but all proceeds will be donated to the local nonprofit Cornerstones, which operates the Embry Rucker Community Shelter and provides housing, food, financial and childcare assistance to residents in the Reston area.
Outside of the grand opening, Dano’s Granola currently opens at 10 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The shop closes at 2 p.m. on Monday and Friday and at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
