Alexandria man arrested, charged in Groveton carjacking

An Alexandria man was arrested earlier this week in connection to a carjacking in the Groveton neighborhood of Fairfax County.

David Rodney Lewis II, 34, is accused of assaulting a delivery driver in the 3300 block of Lockheed Blvd before jumping into the victim’s vehicle and driving off, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Officers responded to the incident around 11 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 25).

According to the FCPD, the Virginia State Police located Lewis later that day with help from its Real Time Crime Center, where detectives can monitor and process data from license plate readers and surveillance camera feeds. He was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Alexandria.

Lewis, who is currently housed in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond, faces one count of carjacking — a felony. If convicted, he would face a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison.

Lewis is scheduled to next appear in Fairfax County General District Court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 24, according to online court records.
