A 34-year-old man faces 10 years in prison after being accused of stealing a bulldozer from a McLean construction site and selling it online.
Dushon Raynard Sheperd, of Michigan, is awaiting extradition to Fairfax County after being arrested in Kentucky earlier this week. He’s been charged with one count of larceny by false pretense.
Sheperd allegedly stole the bulldozer “under the guise that it needed maintenance” from a construction site at the intersection of Chain Bridge Road and Dulles Toll Road last month, police said.
The vehicle was quickly towed away and transported to Laurel County, Kentucky — a rural area in the southeastern part of the state situated about 500 miles away from McLean.
There, the bulldozer was in the possession of somebody who had bought it on Facebook marketplace under obviously false pretenses, according to police.
Sheperd was ultimately arrested by law enforcement in Laurel County on August 29 on two counts of receiving stolen property valued at $10,000 or more.
He is scheduled to appear in a Kentucky court on September 19. A timeline for his extradition to Fairfax County is unclear.
Since Sheperd is not in Fairfax County custody, he does not currently have a scheduled court date in local court.
