Bakery known for handmade croissants now open in Tysons

Sunday Morning Bakehouse is now serving its signature croissants and donuts in Tysons.

After giving local residents a preview with occasional pop-ups earlier this year, the bakery officially opened its doors on Sunday (Sept. 21) at 1796 Chain Bridge Road in Heming, the 28-story apartment and retail building in the Scotts Run neighborhood near the McLean Metro station.

The 3,100-square-foot storefront in Tysons represents the first expansion attempt by chef and owner Caroline Yi, who started Sunday Morning Bakehouse at the Pike & Rose shopping center in North Bethesda in 2019.

“Our bakery café was created with comfort and home in mind and our goal is to provide high quality craveable foods that you will keep coming back for,” Yi said in a press release. “We are excited about our expansion into Northern Virginia to offer the same great quality and experience people know and love to a new community.”

According to the release, Yi began exploring a Virginia location after her original bakery in Maryland proved successful enough to draw a robust base of customers from across the Potomac River.

Most known for its handmade croissants and brioche donuts, Sunday Morning Bakehouse offers a variety of other pastries as well, such as cookies, a cheddar and jalapeno biscuit, chocolate chip banana bread and more. Flavors often vary by the week or season, and some treats are only available on weekends.

The bakery also has all-day breakfast and lunch menus that include sandwiches, toast, salads and quiche. All of the bread is freshly made in house each day.

Drink options include coffee, tea, espresso and seasonal beverages, along with cocktails and mocktails that are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Like its Maryland counterpart, the Tysons location is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday Morning Bakehouse joins a growing roster of retailers in Heming. Completed in 2023, the 410-unit apartment building features 38,000 square feet of retail space that’s now also occupied by Body Fit Training, the Japanese restaurant Modan and Apparati Wellness Studio, which launched in March.

Outside of Heming, the Scotts Run neighborhood is home to Haden apartments, Archer Hotel, Mitre’s Tysons headquarters and the food and entertainment pop-up Shipgarten, though plans to redevelop that block are now being reviewed by Fairfax County staff.
