A new Indian restaurant will open its doors in Reston Town Center next week.
Masti, the newest venture from the owners of Indochen, is scheduled to open next Wednesday, Oct. 8, the restaurant announced.
Like Indochen, which has two locations in Alexandria, Masti will be a fusion restaurant with influences from India and Nepal, the homeland of co-owner and head chef Ram Thapa.
“The kitchen layout [at Indochen] limited what I could share on the menu,” Thapa said. “At Reston, we built everything from scratch, starting with the kitchen, so now I finally have the space to really explore and showcase more variety.”
Thapa, who also founded Masala Indian Cuisine in McLean, partnered with Indochen owner and manager Kumar KC for his latest concept, whose menu blends a deep appreciation for traditional flavors and cooking techniques with “inventive new dishes,” according to a press release.
Included in the vast menu are momo, which are steamed Himalayan dumplings filled with ground meat or vegetables, and Hakka noodles, a stir-fry noodle dish that takes inspiration from the Hakka Chinese community in India.
Among the “bold reinterpretations” are a new take by Thapa on chicken sekuwa or skewers — a common street food in Nepal — and a jackfruit-paneer kofta served with cashew sauce.
Masti also boasts a variety of curries, biryani and tandoori dishes, along with a drink menu that features more than three dozen wines and more than 100 different spirits.
“The team is bringing their expertise to craft house-made syrups, a signature barrel-aged Manhattan, and even some fun tableside cocktails,” Thapa said. “Plus, we’ve curated a wine list that pairs beautifully with our spices.”
“For us, it’s about creating an experience that’s flavorful, creative, and most importantly — fun,” Thapa added.
The 3,915-square-foot restaurant sits on the ground floor of the Hyatt Regency Reston, located near 1825 Discovery Street. With the capacity to seat 136 people indoors and another 40 customers on an outdoor patio, the space features a bar county, a 16-person communal table with a view of the open kitchen, and two private dining rooms available for events.
Masti will join a growing dining scene at Reston Town Center, which also welcomed Corsica Wine Bar and Kusshi Sushi just last month. Eateries still to come include the relocation of MidnighTreats, Paris Baguette, Toastique, Yunnan by Potomac Noodle House, the Italian restaurant Grazie Nonna, an expansion of Vienna’s Clarity, and more.
“Masti means fun in Indian languages, and that’s really what Reston Town Center is all about,” Thapa said. “There’s always something happening in the pavilion or the park, and we’re excited to be part of that energy.”
Once it launches, Masti will be open most days from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The restaurant will be open a half hour later — until 10 p.m. — on Fridays and Saturdays.
The spelling of chef Ram Thapa’s name has been corrected.
