FCPD: Driver cited for DUI in Clifton crash has died

Local police are investigating a Clifton crash that resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man.

On Oct. 4, officers responded to the intersection of Clifton Road and Moore Road after a two-vehicle crash was reported around 3:45 p.m.

Clifton resident Peter Kavaljian was attempting to cross Clifton Road in a 2008 Ford Ranger but failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in his truck being T-boned by another vehicle, officers found in a preliminary investigation.

Kavaljian was taken to a hospital with injuries “initially believed to be non-life-threatening,” police say. However, detectives learned from the county medical examiner’s office on Tuesday (Oct. 21) that he later succumbed to his injuries.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, prompting detectives to issue a summons for driving while intoxicated to Kavaljian after the crash.

Information on the driver of the second vehicle is limited, with no mention in the FCPD’s press release today (Friday) of whether they stayed at the scene after the crash or if they were detained or cited. The only publicly-known detail is that the second driver was behind the wheel of a 2016 Ford Fusion.

Anybody with information about the collision is encouraged to contact FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.
