The Herndon location will be Chicken Salad Chick’s 11th in Virginia and the third opened in Fairfax County by franchisees Devon Chamberlin, Barry Chamberlin and Patrick Cavanaugh, who introduced the chain to the area last year with sites at Idylwood Plaza and Greenbriar Town Center in Chantilly.
“We’re beyond excited to open our third Chicken Salad Chick restaurant this fall,” Devon Chamberlin said. “It’s been such a fun and rewarding journey expanding with the brand so far, and I’m thrilled for what’s ahead. I can’t thank the local community enough for their continued support and love through it all. We look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests to the Herndon restaurant soon.”
Devon Chamberlin, who operates the county’s franchises with her father and father-in-law, first encountered Chicken Salad Chick while living in Tallahassee, Florida, and wanted to bring the chain to her new home after moving to Northern Virginia.
The trio intends to continue expanding in Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun counties after signing a development agreement for eight locations in 2023.
“We’ve loved having Devon, Barry and Patrick lead our expansion efforts in northern Virginia,” Chicken Salad Chick CEO and President Scott Deviney said in the press release. “Fairfax County, especially Herndon, offers tremendous business potential with its blend of small-town charm and proximity to Washington, D.C. We’re thrilled for their third grand opening and excited to bring the Chick experience to an area with such a strong sense of community and diverse dining options.”
Chicken Salad Chick was established in Auburn, Alabama, in 2008 by founder Stacy Brown, who wanted to craft the perfect chicken salad. The company is now headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and has more than 200 restaurants in 17 states.
In addition to over a dozen made-from-scratch salad flavors, the restaurant’s menu features soups, sandwiches and desserts, including buttercream-frosted cookies, cake slices and a chocolate marshmallow crispy bar.
After its launch, Chicken Salad Chick will be open in Herndon Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Located in a shopping center anchored by LA Fitness and Sprout Farmers Market, among other retailers, the chain took over a 2,752-square-foot endcap space previously occupied by Mod Pizza, which closed last year. According to a food establishment application pending inspection by Fairfax County, the restaurant will be able to seat 92 diners indoors with an outdoor patio also available.
