More than a dozen people have been taken to a hospital after a mobile lounge crashed while docking at Dulles International Airport.
The vehicle, also known as a people mover, was pulling into Concourse D around 4:30 p.m. today (Monday) when it “struck the dock at an angle,” a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) said.
Passengers on the mobile lounge evacuated using a set of stairs, and MWAA Fire and Rescue personnel evaluated them for injuries, MWAA media relations representative Crystal Nosal said in a statement.
Ultimately, 18 people were transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
“The airport is open and operating as normal,” MWAA said.

Dulles Airport has relied on mobile lounges to transport passengers from its main terminal to their gates since it opened in the early 1960s.
Though a new concourse under construction will be accessible by AeroTrain, MWAA intends to keep the people mover system in place, issuing a contract in 2023 to rehabilitate and update the vehicles.
The airport currently has 19 mobile lounges in service that can each carry more than 100 passengers, both seated and standing.
