Two pedestrians have died in as many days as a result of crashes on Fairfax County roads.
The Fairfax County Police Department is currently searching for the driver who struck a pedestrian — identified as Steven Davis, 41, of no fixed address — in Annandale on Monday (Nov. 10).
Officers responded at 7:30 a.m. that morning to the 6600 block of Columbia Pike after receiving a report of an unconscious person. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Davis “in the wood line of Mason District Park off the roadway” and declared him deceased, the FCPD says.
“Preliminarily, CRU detectives determined Davis was struck by a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Columbia Pike near Mason District Park,” the FCPD said in a press release yesterday (Tuesday). “The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene.”
Police are also investigating a crash that occurred around 6:39 p.m. last night on Route 29 at Forum Drive in the Fair Oaks area.
“The pedestrian, an adult female, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries,” the FCPD said on social media. “The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene.”
The woman, identified as 33-year-old Nicole Ayilola of Fairfax, ultimately was pronounced dead at the hospital, the FCPD announced today (Wednesday).
Route 29 was closed between Holly Avenue and Forum Drive for approximately two hours while Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives conducted a preliminary investigation.

So far, the investigation indicates that the driver of a 2018 BMW was heading north on Route 29 when they struck Ayilola, who was crossing the road at Forum Drive. The BMW driver didn’t sustain any injuries.
“Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash,” the FCPD said. “The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.”
The intersection of Route 29 and Forum Drive was previously the site of an ultimately fatal pedestrian crash on Jan. 8, 2022. The pedestrian, Joel Gonzalez, 22, of Fairfax, died from his injuries 10 days later, but FCPD detectives determined that he was crossing the road outside a crosswalk when the crash occurred.
The FCPD also said speed and alcohol didn’t appear to be factors in the crash, suggesting the driver didn’t face any charges or citations.
Davis and Ayilola’s deaths bring Fairfax County’s pedestrian death toll for the year up to nine, according to preliminary state data. That is the lowest number of pedestrian fatalities since 2014, the last year that ended with a single-digit toll, but more than a month remains in 2025.
Traffic safety advocates with Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets will host a World Day of Remembrance this Sunday (Nov. 16) at Gateway Park in Arlington to honor the pedestrians who have been killed in the region in 2024 and 2025.
