Fairfax County police believe one man is behind a series of assault and exposure incidents that have occurred near the Washington & Old Dominion Trail in Reston over the past month.

Koby Berry, a 27-year-old Reston resident, was arrested on Nov. 15 after he was allegedly caught on video touching a woman “inappropriately” in a store at North Point Village Center earlier that week, the Fairfax County Police Department announced today (Thursday).

The FCPD didn’t identify the store, but according to scanner traffic, the woman told officers around 9:22 a.m. on Nov. 11 that she “was entering Giant” when the unknown man touched her.

Identified as the suspect based on surveillance footage, Berry has been charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor, for the incident, the FCPD says.

According to the FCPD, Berry had previously been arrested on Nov. 9 after officers found him on the W&OD Trail when responding to a report of someone striking a man who was walking on the trail and taking a woman’s phone near Hunter Mill Road.

Berry was charged with simple assault and grand larceny for stealing property from a person worth more than $5, but he was released on recognizance after an arraignment on Nov. 10, according to Fairfax County General District Court records.

Detectives have also accused Berry of assaulting a bicyclist on the W&OD Trail on Oct. 30 and exposing himself to guests at a hotel in the 12100 block of Sunset Hills Road — likely the Extended Stay America near RTC West — on Nov. 1.

“On October 30, an unknown suspect jumped in front of a female bicyclist on the W&OD trail and tackled her off her bike before fleeing,” the FCPD said.

Berry was charged on Tuesday (Nov. 18) for misdemeanor assault in that case.

For the indecent exposure incident, police say a man entered a hotel room and “stated he was security looking for someone who defecated on the sidewalk.”

“When in the room, he exposed himself to women in the room then left the area,” the FCPD said in a press release.

Police have charged Berry with indecent exposure and trespassing.

Berry is now in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, but he’s scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Friday).
