A pedestrian has died in the wake of a crash that occurred last month on Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield.

Marcos Ramirez, 53, was crossing Old Keene Mill Road at Hanover Avenue around 8 p.m. on Nov. 16 when the westbound driver of a 2011 Honda Accord struck him, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Officers responded to the crash at 8:07 p.m., and Ramirez was transported to an area hospital with injuries that police say were initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

However, detectives were notified last Friday (Nov. 28) by the state Medical Examiner’s Office that Ramirez had ultimately died from his injuries.

“The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated,” the FCPD said in a press release, noting that the Honda driver didn’t sustain any injuries from the crash and remained at the scene.

Police described Ramirez as having “no fixed address,” a phrase sometimes used for individuals experiencing homelessness.

The FCPD says anyone with information about the crash can contact its Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives at 703-280-0543. The department also accepts anonymous tips through Crime Solvers by phone – 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477) — and online.

A major thoroughfare for Springfield, Old Keene Mill Road was the site of four fatal crashes last year, including two that killed pedestrians and two that killed motorcyclists. This is the first fatality on the road reported in 2025, though there have been 32 injuries from crashes, according to preliminary Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles data.

Ramirez is the 10th pedestrian and 34th person overall to die in a traffic crash in Fairfax County this year, following two other fatal pedestrian crashes that occurred in November. None of the fatal November crashes appear to have been recorded yet in the state data.
