UPDATED: Pedestrian critically injured after Maple Avenue crash in Vienna

A pedestrian was hospitalized after a crash in Vienna that triggered delays along the town’s busiest thoroughfare this morning (Friday).

Vienna Police responded to the intersection of Nutley Street SW and Maple Avenue West at around 6:15 a.m. after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle heading north on Maple.

The northbound lanes of Maple Avenue heading toward Tysons reopened around 8:50 a.m. after closing during much of the morning rush hour. Westbound lanes of Nutley Street between Maple Avenue and Courthouse Road were also temporarily closed.

The pedestrian, a 44-year-old man, was transported to a hospital “in critical condition,” according to a spokesperson for the Vienna Police Department.

“This was not a hit-and-run incident,” the VPD said. “The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.”

An investigation into the crash is underway, and Vienna police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has video footage to contact Detective Steve Simon at steve.simon@viennava.gov.
