American Girl store set to reopen in Tysons this weekend

Less than two weeks after temporarily closing, American Girl is ready to show off its makeover at Tysons Corner Center.

Workers have been busy today cleaning and putting the finishing touches on the popular doll maker’s new store in the mall ahead of its grand opening at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

Mattel, American Girl’s parent company, and a representative for Tysons Corner Center owner Macerich didn’t respond to comment requests by press time, but an employee at the store confirmed the date to FFXnow.

The store will offer a number of perks throughout its grand opening weekend (Jan. 17-19), including a free tote bag with any purchase for the first 100 customers to visit tomorrow. Other promotions include American Girl Icons posters for all visitors while supplies last, a free gingham hairbow for Raquel Reyes dolls with a salon hairstyling, and double rewards points on purchases for members, according to a sign at the store’s entrance.

American Girl shuttered its two-story shop near Bloomingdale’s on Jan. 4 after almost 15 years at Tysons Corner Center, reassuring customers that it would reopen in a new spot in early 2026.

Located on the mall’s first floor (1961 Chain Bridge Road Space N10L) near Barnes & Noble, the new store appears to offer many of the same services as its predecessor despite taking up less space.

In addition to selling a wide selection of dolls and accessories, the shop features a doll styling salon, customization stations and a care center for repairs. Customers can also make appointments to shop with a personal guide.

However, a bistro where visitors could previously schedule tea times is no longer included.

“Discover all the excitement that awaits — a place where every girl can experience the fun of special events plus styling services at the American Girl Salon,” the Tysons store’s website says. “And of course, you can enjoy exclusive shopping for dolls, outfits, playsets, and so much more.”

Starting tomorrow, American Girl’s operating hours in Tysons will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, per the store website.

Some significant changes might be in store for the west end of the mall, where American Girl’s previous storefront has now been papered over. In a presentation to investors last May, Macerich shared plans to renovate that area with a “luxury market” and “upscale dining” that rumors suggest could include the Italian food and retail chain Eataly and the popular Taiwanese dim sum chain Din Tai Fung.

If accurate, this would be the first location in the D.C. region for both brands.
