Herndon’s Harding Park closes as playground replacement begins

The Town of Herndon has closed Harding Park and is in the process of replacing the playground, among other improvements.

A groundbreaking was held Tuesday (Feb. 17) at Harding Park (749 Van Buren Street), Town of Herndon spokesperson Reid Okoniewski told FFXnow.

The project includes a playground replacement and addition of two fixed benches on the playground’s edge for parents to use. Existing picnic tables and benches will remain at the park.

“The previous playground was 20 years old and the new design will continue to have swings, slides, jungle gym,” Okoniewski said.

As of Wednesday (Feb. 18), active construction was underway at the site, and components of the old playground were already removed.

The town had surveyed residents in November on the park design.

The park will remain closed until construction is complete. The project will last about two to three weeks, depending on weather.
