A Mexican restaurant near George Mason University’s Fairfax campus abruptly shuttered this week.
Banditos Bar & Kitchen has closed after three years in business at 10621 Braddock Road in University Mall, the restaurant announced yesterday (Tuesday) on social media.
No explicit reason for the closure was provided, only that the decision “was not made lightly.”
“Fairfax has been a meaningful part of the Banditos story, and we are truly grateful to everyone who supported us, dined with us and made this location feel like home,” the post reads.

Opened in March 2023 as Banditos Tacos & Tequila, Banditos was crafted not as a traditional Mexican restaurant, but more of a sports bar that served a wide menu of Mexican dishes, including over a dozen different tacos, enchiladas, rice bowls and more.
The drinks menu was heavy on tequila and mezcal with 15 different options, along with plenty of margaritas to choose from, cocktails, beer and wine.
In their farewell message, the Banditos Fairfax team encouraged supporters to visit its restaurant in Arlington, one of four locations still operating and the only one left in Virginia.
“We would be honored to welcome you there whenever the opportunity arises,” the message said.
