New gym lines up to replace Anytime Fitness at Twinbrooke Shopping Center

Though Anytime Fitness is set to close later this spring, the Twinbrooke Shopping Center won’t go without a gym for long.

Expected to open in the Kings Park West strip mall this summer is Pump24, a local gym brand “designed for individuals who take their training seriously and are seeking a higher-quality experience than traditional big-box facilities,” a spokesperson said.

Along with “professional-grade strength equipment,” perhaps the gym’s biggest draw is 24 hour access — something also championed by the departing Anytime Fitness brand.

“With 24/7 access, premium equipment, premium group classes, mat Pilates and infrared sauna recovery, we’ve built a gym that delivers both convenience and quality,” the Pump24 spokesperson said. “Pump24 gives members the freedom to train on their schedule without sacrificing the environment or equipment needed to make real progress.”

The gym will be located in the former Walgreens storefront at 9579-A Braddock Road, which, at more than 9,000-square-feet, is one of the largest spaces in the shopping center.

No specific opening date has been set, but the gym’s doors are expected to open in “late summer.”

“We’re planning a high-energy grand opening experience, including partnerships with local business vendors, special events and exclusive perks like priority class booking for our founding members,” a Pump24 spokesperson said.

The Twinbrooke location will be the brand’s fourth overall and second in Fairfax County following an opening in Vienna last fall. Pump24 can also be found in South Riding and Harrisonburg.

This latest expansion “is particularly meaningful” for Pump24, because everyone on the company’s ownership team graduated from Woodson High School and grew up in the surrounding neighborhoods, according to co-owner Ned Williams.

“We’re proud to bring this elevated fitness concept back to the community that we’ve called home for decades,” Williams said in a press release from Twinbrooke Shopping Center owner Federal Realty.

Anytime Fitness is expected to close by April 8, according to owner Brian Samuel, meaning that the shopping center will likely go at least two full months without a fitness center.
