Where to find live music in Fairfax County this summer

Summer is fast approaching, with it will come a full season of musical entertainment.

Fairfax County is home to a number of venues that will host concerts and festivals in the coming months, in many cases for free. Here are some options community members can look forward to, from Wolf Trap to Herndon:

Countywide

Summer Entertainment Series
The Fairfax County Park Authority organizes free, live performances in all magisterial districts every summer. Though the 2026 lineup hasn’t been unveiled yet, as of press time, the 2025 season featured 189 performances at 14 different venues and drew an estimated 35,141 attendees.

Reston

Reston Concerts on the Town
Reston Concerts on the Town will return for its 33rd series each Saturday from May 16 to Aug. 22. These free concerts, which start at 7:30 p.m. (except for June 5-6, starting at 5:30 p.m.), will feature performances from bands like emmet swimming, Delta Spur, Big Al and The Jokers, Pat McGee Band, RDGLDGRN and The Ocean Blue. The series of concerts will take place at the Reston Town Center Pavilion (1818 Discovery Street).

Reston Community Center
Reston Community Center organizes multiple summer concert series every year, including Happy Hour with Darden & Friends and Sunday Art in the Park at Reston Town Square Park, Summerbration Fab Fridays at Reston Station, Sunset Concerts at Lake Anne Plaza, and Take a Break at Halley Rise. Locations and times depend on the series.

Tysons

Capital One Hall
Capital One Hall will have several summer concerts, beginning in early May through August. There will be performances from bands and singers like Equity Arc, Double Duran, and George Thorogood & The Destroyers. Ticket prices vary by show. These performances will take place at 7750 Capital One Tower Road.

Vienna Area

Summer on the Green
The Town of Vienna’s Summer on the Green concerts are coming on select Fridays from June through mid-August. Performances will include the Sarah Swanner Band, the Cassaday Concoction, U.S. Army Blues Swamp Romp and the U.S. Army Band Commodores. Concerts start at 6:30 p.m. and are about 90 minutes. It will take place at Vienna Town Green (144 Maple Ave East).

Wolf Trap
Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts will be hosting its summer concert series, beginning in late May and going through August. There will be performances from singers and bands such as Chance the Rapper, Diana Ross, Jon Batiste, Thee Sacred Souls, Pepe Aguilar and Sting.

Also, there will be an America250 series, commemorating America’s 250th birthday, that includes a special tribute to the musical legacy of John Prine. The concerts, which vary in price, will take place at the Filene Center located at 1551 Trap Road, Vienna.

City of Fairfax

Rock the Block
The City of Fairfax will have its summer concert series beginning on May 22. The free concerts will include performances from bands such as The Reflex, Perfekt Blend, My Chemical Bromance and Groovalicious. These shows will take place on select Fridays from late May to late October from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Old Town Square (10415 North Street).

South County

Fort Hunt Concerts
Fort Hunt Park will host free concerts on each Sunday in June, July and August. Those concerts, held at Pavilion A, will include performances from the National Concert Band of America, Nitehawks, Blue Breeze Band, Mount Vernon Community Band, NOVA Mountain Dulcimers and Alte Kameraden. The concerts will start at 7 p.m. at 8999 Fort Hunt Road.

Town of Herndon

Friday Night Live!
Friday Night Live! will be hosting its 32nd free outdoor concert series each Friday from May 22 to Sept. 4. The shows will include performances by Lost In Paris, Pool Boys, KleptoRadio, Social Call, Legal in The District, The Reflex and Shake the Room. The concert will start at 6 p.m. and will take place at the Herndon Town Green (777 Lynn Street).
