A woman and her 8-year-old child were in their car when a man reportedly climbed on the hood and robbed them earlier this month, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The department is asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect in the incident, which occurred in the 5200 block of Montgomery Street in Springfield on June 14 around 9:10 p.m.

“An unknown man approached the victim’s car and asked for a ride,” police said in a press release. “When she declined, the man climbed onto the hood of her car, demanded money, threatened to harm the victim and her 8-year-old daughter, and implied he was armed by reaching into a bag. After the victim provided money, the man got off the vehicle and fled the scene before police arrived.”

Neither the woman nor her daughter were injured.

The FCPD said that about an hour before the incident, the man was seen “intentionally stepping into traffic along the 7300 block of Braddock Road.” During a canvas of the area, they found footage of the alleged suspect taken by a home’s surveillance cameras.

Anyone who has information is asked to call the Franconia Police Station at 703-922-0889 to speak with a detective.

The FCPD is also still looking for a man who allegedly robbed a driver in the Hutchison area west of Herndon over the weekend.
