A Herndon man was arrested Thursday after a hit-and-run involving a dump truck that eventually burst into flames in Fauquier County.
On Thursday afternoon, deputies responded to a vehicle fire involving a dump truck on Route 17 in Bealeton. Once on scene it was determined the dump truck caused a three-vehicle crash. The dump truck was fully engulfed in fire, and the driver had fled on foot.
K-9 and drone units were deployed to search for the driver and a perimeter was established. A deputy eventually located the driver walking on the railroad tracks.
The driver, identified as Alexander Marin, 32, of Herndon, was drinking alcohol when he was located and was determined to be intoxicated. He faces charges of felony hit and run, drunk in public, felony damage to property, driving with a suspended license, driving a commercial vehicle without a commercial driver’s license and reckless driving, according to the sheriff’s office.
Another driver involved in the crash was transported to Fauquier Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
