A motorcyclist died yesterday (Monday) after colliding with a car on Braddock Road near the Kings Park neighborhood in Burke.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, the crash occurred around 9:36 p.m. at the intersection of Braddock Road and Kings Park Drive — the same location where a pedestrian was killed almost four years ago.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe 26-year-old Clifton resident Paul Economon Jr. was traveling east on Braddock on a 2013 Honda CB1100 motorcycle when he crashed into a 2021 Toyota Corolla that was in the process of turning left from the westbound lanes onto Kings Park Drive.
Economon was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Toyota driver was also hospitalized with injuries described by police as “minor.”
“Preliminarily, detectives believe speed was a factor in the crash for the motorcyclist,” the FCPD said today in a press release. “Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.”
The speed limit on the section of Braddock Road where the crash occurred is 45 mph. The crash remains under investigation, police said.

Economon is the second person to be killed in a crash on Braddock Road this year. A 57-year-old man from Centreville died on Feb. 6 after crashing into a police cruiser that was waiting for the traffic light to change at the Prestwick Drive intersection near George Mason University’s campus.
In addition, a motorcyclist was seriously injured last summer in a collision at the Little River Turnpike intersection in Lincolnia.
Crashes on Braddock Road resulted in four fatalities in 2024, including a pedestrian, and the corridor was the site of a fatal single-vehicle crash in 2023, according to police data collected by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
Specifically at the Braddock and Kings Park Drive intersection, Springfield resident Ly Tran was using a crosswalk to reach the north side of Braddock Road on Nov. 15, 2022 when the driver of a turning Toyota RAV4 SUV struck her. She died from her injuries on Dec. 4, 2022 at the age of 70.
The driver in the crash was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian, but no stronger criminal charges were pursued, since police concluded that speed and alcohol “were not factors in the crash.” The case ended with the driver paying a $30 fine and $67 in court fees on Dec. 12, 2022, online court records show.
Also that year, a motorcyclist died on July 12 after losing control of his bike and crashing at the Braddock Road and Fairfax County Parkway intersection on June 29.
State data currently shows 17 total traffic fatalities in Fairfax County so far in 2026, but only two deaths are shown for June and none for May, even though five people, including a motorcyclist, were killed in the span of two days earlier this month.
Based on reporting by FFXnow, police and other media, 10 people, including Economon, have now died in crashes in Fairfax County this June, and four people died in May.
