A 63-year-old Springfield man died Sunday (April 3) from injuries sustained after a car struck him while he was in a median, Fairfax County Police Department said today (Thursday).
An Annandale man was driving a 2020 Hyundai Elantra around 1 p.m. March 28 on Franconia Road West in Springfield when he ran a red light, entered an intersection, and struck a Ford F-150 that was traveling north on Loisdale Road, police said.
The truck continued to travel into the Commerce Street median area and struck Ellie Robinson, before also striking a 2021 Toyota Corolla in the left turn lane of Commerce Street, according to the release.
Robinson and the drivers of the Hyundai and Ford were taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. But Robinson’s condition deteriorated at the hospital and he died six days later.
The Hyundai Elantra driver, a 53-year-old man, was charged with reckless driving. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
This is the fifth pedestrian fatality in the county in 2022, police said. By this date in 2021, there were two pedestrian fatalities.
