The last week of June was apparently a tough one for Vienna food service workers.

On the same day that a man reportedly threatened Hawk & Griffin employees and customers over the pub’s Pride flags, a woman got arrested after she assaulted three workers at Carnegie Diner & Cafe (501 Maple Avenue West), the Vienna Police Department says.

Officers were called to the recently opened restaurant at 9:45 p.m. on Friday, June 28, according to the VPD’s weekly summary for June 28 through last Tuesday (July 2).

“An employee reported a woman entered the diner through the rear door and began acting disorderly,” police said. “The woman assaulted three employees while using racial slurs towards them.”

The 41-year-old woman was arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where she was held without bond. She has been charged with one count of simple assault and two counts of simple assault with bias, Vienna police say.

According to police, the woman was trespassed from Carnegie Diner and told she would be arrested if she returns.

That incident occurred just minutes after a Vienna police officer arrested the man who allegedly made homophobic comments to customers and workers at Hawk & Griffin (435 Maple Avenue West). The 40-year-old man with no fixed address was held without bond at the county jail on multiple charges, including being drunk in public and assaulting an officer, per the VPD summary.

Other notable incidents from the past week, pre-Independence Day, include the arrests of both a landlord and a tenant who had obtained an emergency protective order against her.

According to the report, an officer served the order to the landlord in the 300 block of Lawyers Road NW on June 29 at 8:43 p.m., but police were called back to the residence later that night at 11:54 p.m.

The tenant reported her landlord, who was served with an Emergency Protective Order earlier in the night…came into her area of the home and began harassing her. The tenant assaulted the landlord, causing injury to her face and head. Rescue personnel responded to treat the injuries but the woman became combative with the officers and rescue personnel. The landlord was transported to an area hospital by rescue personnel with an officer escorting them, as she continued to act aggressively.

PFC Stroh arrested the tenant, a 61-year-old woman, and transported her to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Malicious Wounding.

Warrants were obtained for the landlord and were served the following day when she was released from the hospital. PFC Mayar arrested the 65-year-old woman and transported her to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The landlord was charged with six felony counts of Assault on a Police Officer, Obstruction of Justice, and Violation of an Emergency Protective Order.
