A vehicle crash that occurred earlier this month on Richmond Highway has turned fatal.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner informed detectives on Tuesday (July 16) that 80-year-old Donna Gulino died from injuries she got in the July 3 crash, the Fairfax County Police Department announced yesterday (Wednesday).

According to the police, officers were dispatched to the 8600 block of Richmond Highway in Mount Vernon around 4:30 p.m. for a crash involving two vehicles.

The FCPD says a preliminary investigation determined that Guilino was turning left onto Lukens Lane near Engleside Plaza from the southbound lanes of Richmond Highway in a 2011 Cadillac ATS sedan when her vehicle was hit by the northbound driver of a 2019 Mini Cooper.

“Both drivers were transported to the hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening,” the FCPD said in a press release.

The crash is now under investigation, but “preliminarily, speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors,” the FCPD says.

This is now the 17th fatal crash that the FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit has investigated this year. Gulino is the 24th person to be killed in a crash in Fairfax County, according to state data, which doesn’t show any July fatalities yet.

The FCPD also reported on Monday (July 15) that a passenger in a Clifton crash over the weekend had died.
