Police have made another arrest in connection to the theft of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from Chanel’s store in Tysons Galleria.
The Fairfax County Police Department previously identified three individuals as suspects in the June 25 robbery. One man was arrested in Pennsylvania on Aug. 7, but two others — a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, also from Pennsylvania — were still being located.
The man has now been located, the FCPD announced yesterday (Wednesday). Fugitive tracking detectives determined that he was in Ohio on Aug. 15, and he was recently taken into custody with help from the U.S. Marshals Service and Ohio State Highway Patrol.
“He was held on no bond and is awaiting extradition to Fairfax County,” the FCPD said in a news release.
The man has been charged with robbery, larceny with intent to sell, conspiracy to commit larceny and retail theft, assault with a caustic substance, property destruction and petit larceny, which is defined in Virginia as the theft of goods worth less than $1,000.
At a press conference last week on the department’s efforts to crack down on retail thefts, Fairfax County Police Chief Deputy Chief Greg Fried described the individuals who robbed Chanel as part of a “crew” that has targeted “high-end” retailers across multiple states.
According to police, the group is known for deploying fire extinguishers at loss prevention officers to provide cover for their robbery and escape — a tactic reportedly seen during the Chanel robbery, which lasted less than 15 seconds but resulted in the loss of over $60,000 in handbags.
The FCPD is still trying to identify four other people, two women and two men, who are believed to have been involved in the robbery.
