Ramp closures and detours are in place during overnight hours this week around the I-495 and George Washington Memorial Parkway interchange.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said ramp closures and detours will be in place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. this week.
According to VDOT:
Motorists are advised there will be continued ramp closures and detours during overnight hours this week at the exit ramp from the southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) collector road to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44), and the on-ramp from northwest George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to southbound I-495.
The closures are scheduled to continue through Thursday or possibly Friday evenings to complete a traffic shift on the southbound I-495 collector road.
VDOT said the detour for motorists traveling on northwest GWMP to southbound I-495:
- From northwest GWMP, take exit to northbound I-495 toward Maryland
- Continue north on I-495 to Exit 41 for Clara Barton Parkway
- Stay left for westbound Clara Barton Parkway
- Take the exit to Carderock. Turn left at stop sign, followed by another left turn to merge back onto eastbound Clara Barton Parkway
- Continue on eastbound Clara Barton Parkway and exit and merge onto southbound I-495 toward Virginia
The detour for motorists traveling on southbound I-495 collector road to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44):
- Continue south on I-495 general purpose lanes to Exit 46B for Route 123 North
- Take the exit for northbound I-495 general purpose lanes
- Continue north on I-495 general purpose lanes to Exit 44 for Georgetown Pike
