Reston Association is bringing back its annual poolside movie screenings starting late next month.
Started over 20 years ago, the Family Dive-In Movies have become reliably popular community events, where guests can see movies while going for a swim at a local pool.
This year’s lineup features “The Wild Robot,” which was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars this year, and the more-standard franchise flicks “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Moana 2.”
Doors open at 8 p.m. for each movie, with the movie starting at 8:45 p.m. Tickets are free for RA recreation pass holders and $30 per ticket for others.
Candy, popcorn and drinks will also be available for purchase.
This summer’s movies will be:
- Thursday, June 25: Kung Fu Panda 4 at Lake Newport Pool (11601 Lake Newport Road)
- Thursday, July 10: The Wild Robot at Hunters Woods Pool (2501 Reston Parkway)
- Wednesday, Aug. 6: Moana 2 at Golf Course Island Pool (11301 Links Drive)
Reston Association launched its swimming pool season on May 10 with the opening of the heated North Shore and Ridge Heights pools. Additional pools will be added over Memorial Day weekend, starting this Saturday (May 24).
While the dive-in movies mostly cater towards children, Reston Association offers Senior Movie Days for free at Reston Town Center’s LOOK Dine-In Cinemas (11940 Market Street) on the fourth Wednesday of every month for those over 55. The popular program kicked off its 30th year in January.
RA also started organizing outdoor movie screenings at Reston parks during the COVID-19 pandemic, but a spokeserson says they decided to focus on the dive-in series this year.
