A private tennis coach in Lorton has been arrested after a student alleged that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with her.
The victim told officers on Nov. 23 that Tony Adams, 62, had “subjected [her] to inappropriate conduct” when she was taking lessons from him, the Fairfax County Police Department says. She was underage at the time.
While the FCPD didn’t provide a specific timeline, online court records indicate that the incidents occurred over a five-year span, citing offense dates ranging from April 30 and Aug. 31 in 2020 to April 30, 2021 and Oct. 24, 2025.
In addition to giving private lessons, Adams has previously been involved with Fairfax County Public Schools as a coach and an athletics supporter.
“Adams also worked as an assistant tennis coach at West Springfield High School from 2015 to 2016 and as a tennis coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School in 2018,” the FCPD said. “He also supported the tennis program at West Springfield in 2022, but not as a coach.”
He does not appear to be a current FCPS employee.
Adams was arrested on Nov. 24 and charged with four counts of indecent liberties by a custodian, a felony in Virginia that could result in prison sentences of up to five years for a first offense and 10 years for additional cases.
He remains in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond after an arraignment on Tuesday (Dec. 2). A preliminary hearing in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2026.
“Victim specialists from our Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure that the victim is receiving appropriate resources and assistance,” the FCPD said.
The department says detectives are looking to talk to anyone who may have information about this case or “possibly related” incidents. The Major Crimes Bureau can be contacted at 703-246-7800, option 4, and the FCPD accepts anonymous tips through Crime Solvers.
