A pedestrian struck by a driver on John Marr Drive in Annandale this weekend has died, police say.

Sun Hyo Kim, a 56-year-old woman from Annandale, was crossing John Marr Drive from south to north when the driver of a BMW struck her between Ravensworth Road and Backlick Road around 5:37 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 28), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“Officers determined that the driver of a 2012 BMW was traveling westbound on John Marr Drive toward Ravensworth Road,” the FCPD said today (Monday) in a news release.

Kim was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with injuries described as life-threatening and was later pronounced deceased. The BMW driver didn’t experience any injuries and remained at the scene of the crash, police said.

The FCPD says alcohol doesn’t appear to have been a factor in the crash, but detectives are still investigating whether the driver might’ve been speeding.

Kim is the fourth pedestrian to be killed in a crash in Fairfax County so far this year, following two fatal hit-and-runs on Jan. 7 and a Feb. 11 incident where two drivers began arguing after getting into a crash on I-95 near Lorton. One of the drivers stepped into a travel lane and was struck by a passing SUV.

Fairfax County had 14 pedestrian fatalities last year, according to state data.
