Two people have been hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash on Route 29 in the Legato area of Fair Oaks.

Fairfax County police officers, firefighters and medics were dispatched to Route 29 at Piney Branch Road around 4:15 p.m. today (Monday) for a reported crash involving three to four vehicles, according to scanner traffic.

“One driver’s unconscious,” a dispatcher relayed on the scanner, noting that the crash was called in by multiple people.

Based on scanner traffic, the crash might’ve involved a total of five vehicles, including a moving truck, a sedan and a blue SUV.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, one of the drivers, an adult man, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another driver, an adult woman, was taken to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in “non-life-threatening condition.”

As of 5:30 p.m., southbound Route 29 was closed between Piney Branch Road and Legato Road.

“Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives are responding to investigate,” the FCPD said. “Please use an alternate route.”

While the cause of the crash is unclear, the Virginia Department of Transportation’s traffic cameras suggest there’s limited visibility in the area, as a light but steady snow has been falling throughout this afternoon.
