A woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash this afternoon (Friday) on Route 29 near the Centreville Regional Library.
Police, firefighters and a medic with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to Route 29 at Machen Road around 5:32 p.m. for a crash involving at least one reportedly trapped person, according to scanner traffic.
Upon arriving at the scene, responders found a woman stuck underneath one of the cars involved in the crash.
“Confirmed, one female under the car. We’re going to work on trying to get the car up with a ladder until we can get rescue here,” a firefighter said.
The woman was extricated by 5:40 p.m.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, an adult female passenger was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, though it’s unclear if it was the same woman who was trapped under the car.
As of press time, northbound Machen Road remained closed at St. Germain Drive for the crash investigation. Some lanes on Route 29 are also blocked off.
“The north left lane and right lane are closed,” the Virginia Department of Transportation’s traffic camera website says. “Motorists are advised to follow police direction. Traffic is able to pass in the right and left turn lanes.”
