Wonder food hall plans grand opening in Hybla Valley next week

New York City-based food hall Wonder is continuing its regional expansion with a new location in Hybla Valley.

Wonder is hosting a grand opening next week for its new food hall at 7713 Fordson Road in the Fordson Place shopping center. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, with festivities including giveaways and a ribbon cutting.

The first 100 guests to place an order of $10 and above at the new hall will receive a Wonder “swag bag.”

The company promises delivery within 30 minutes, offers menus from 31 different restaurants and has partnered with brands by celebrity chefs like Michael Symon and Bobby Flay. Featured restaurants include “old-school” Italian joint Alanza, salad shop Royal Greens and Californian eatery Walnut Lane by Jonathan Waxman.

Wonder has opened 16 locations across D.C., Maryland and Virginia since launching an expansion into the D.C. area last summer, including halls in Franconia and Reston. According to the Wonder website, more locations are being planned in Falls Church, Bowie, Bethesda, Woodbridge and Sterling.

The “Falls Church” location might actually be in Lincolnia, based on a commercial alteration permit request submitted to Fairfax County on May 12.

According to the application, Wonder is seeking to convert two existing spaces in Barcroft Plaza at 6343 and 6345 Columbia Pike “into a single fine-casual restaurant featuring dine-in and take-away services.”

The food hall was founded by billionaire and ex-Walmart CEO Marc Lore, who previously told the New York Times he thought the venture could be “the Amazon of food and beverage.” In recent years, the company has made big-name acquisitions that include Grubhub, Blue Apron and media company Tastemade.

The brand has dozens of locations elsewhere on the East Coast, including spots in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Before next Thursday’s grand opening, the Hybla Valley food hall is hosting a “soft opening” with RSVP dates on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

During the soft opening, guests can sign up for a time slot to get a “sneak peek” of the space and receive a $15 meal discount.
