Pride Month has arrived, and with it comes a range of celebrations throughout the D.C. region, from festivals to bike rides.
While RestonPride announced earlier this year that it will not hold its annual festival this year due to “critical” capacity and organizational challenges, Fairfax County will still have quite a few other events to uplift the LGBTQ community.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up over the next few weeks:
June 6
Fairfax Pride (11 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Sherwood Community Center (3740 Blenheim Blvd) in Fairfax City
The festival includes community vendors, activities for children such as face painting and caricatures, and live music.
Pride at Mosaic (3-6 p.m.)
Mosaic District (2905 District Avenue) in Merrifield
Host Tommy McFly kicks off the celebration, which will include live music from the band Hall Pass, and stories and songs by Tara Hoot in her “Fabulous Fun Story Time Show.”
Pride Trivia Night (7 p.m.)
Audacious Aleworks Brewery (110 East Fairfax Street) in Falls Church
“Rounds will include LGBTQ+ History, Fictional Characters, Symbols and more. All are welcome, teams can be up to 7 players. There’s no cost to play.”
June 7
Trek Fairfax Pride Ride (10 a.m.)
Trek Bicycle (10937 Fairfax Blvd) in Fairfax City
“Everyone is welcome on this casual cruise — so bring your family, coworkers, neighbors, and friends,” the bicycle store says in its event description. “Plus, we’ll be handing out lots of tasty snacks, drinks, and free goodies (while supplies last) — so don’t miss out. Helmets are required, and lights and hydration are recommended.”
June 9
Pride Month Zine Workshop with NoVa Prism Center (6:30-8 p.m.)
Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library (7584 Leesburg Pike) in Pimmit Hills
Registration is required for this workshop series, which will teach “the ins and outs of creating independent literature and art magazines, from the history of zine culture to exploring today’s tools and techniques as you make your own one-page zine. This hands-on workshop includes all of your supplies, materials, and plenty of examples to inspire you!”
June 15
Pride Color Run (6:30 p.m.)
Caboose Tavern (520 Mill Street NE) in Vienna
Show up wearing white for a run packed with color. Tickets available the day of the event.
June 22
The Fab Facts: Pride Trivia (7-8:30 p.m.)
Martha Washington Library (6614 Fort Hunt Road) in Groveton
“Join us in celebrating Pride Month with trivia on LGBTQ+ history and pop culture and get a chance to win Pride themed prizes!”
June 25
Bennie and the Jets: Tribute to Elton John (7 p.m.)
McLean Central Park (1468 Dolley Madison Blvd) in McLean
The McLean Community Center’s free summer concert series will recognize Pride Month with a musical tribute to Elton John. “Greg Ransom is every bit as flamboyant, outrageous and entertaining as the Pinball Wizard himself,” the event says.
June 27
Herndon Pride (noon-5 p.m.)
Hosted by ArtsHerndon at 750 Center Street
The festival will be “a full day of live music, local vendors, new activities, theatre, and a vibrant ‘Hands on Art’ children’s arts space. It’s a joyful, high-energy celebration of community, creativity, and inclusion.”
June 30
DIY Pride tote bags (7-8 p.m.)
John Marshall Library (6209 Rose Hill Drive) in Rose Hill
Registrations open at 7 p.m. on June 16 for this library event, which invites community members to design and decorate their own tote bags to carry “library books, groceries, or supplies.” Materials will be provided.
