Reston residents will have many free ways to get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors as part of Play All Day VA celebrations, which fall on Father’s Day this year.
As a part of a statewide initiative to get residents active in their own communities, Reston Association is offering a number of activities at its facilities that are free or reduced in price on June 21, the longest day of the year.
“Play is essential to building strong, healthy communities,” RA Director of Recreation Laura Kowalski said in a press release. “With our 15 pools, 50+ courts, four lakes and more than 55 miles of trails and pathways, Play All Day VA is a great opportunity for our members and neighbors to explore Reston and enjoy the benefits of recreation.”
The association highlighted the following activities:
- Free boat rentals at Lake Anne Boat Dock from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. No reservations required.
- Free water aerobics class at North Shore Pool from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
- Tennis and pickleball players may bring one free guest per household to join them on the courts.
- Gaga ball at Browns Chapel Park from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This high energy, easy to learn game is fun for all ages and a great way to stay active together.
- Trail exploration on Reston Association’s extensive trail system from sunrise to sunset. Trail maps will be available at Walker Nature Center from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. or online.
- Walker Nature Center programming, including “Marvelous Monarchs,” from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Advance registration is required. Visitors can also pick up a summer or pollinator-themed scavenger hunt from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Additionally, lifeguards will provide free swim assessments at Reston Association’s pools.
A food donation drive will be held starting this Saturday (June 13) until the end of August as a part of RA’s Play All Day festivities. Nonperishable goods can be dropped off at Browns Chapel Park.
Outside of Reston, there are also opportunities to get involved. The Town of Herndon will offer free admission to the community center all day long, in addition to other activities in its parks. NOVA Parks is also offering a free “explorer walk” at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, with advance registration and limited spots available.
