A teenage bicyclist was injured this morning (Wednesday) after being struck by a driver on Dranesville Road in Herndon.
Units with the Town of Herndon Police Department and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the Dranesville and Worchester Street intersection shortly before 10 a.m. for the crash, according to emergency scanner traffic.
The bicyclist appears to have been traveling north on Dranesville when a southbound driver attempting to turn left from Dranesville onto Worchester Street hit him, Herndon Police spokesperson Lisa Herndon told FFXnow.
A preliminary investigation found that the teen was using an on-road bike lane, Herndon said.
The bicyclist was transported to a hospital with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening. The driver remained at the scene of the crash.
Northbound Dranesville Road was temporarily closed as police and the fire department responded to the crash, but all lanes had reopened by 10:19 a.m.
“There will be an investigation into this incident, and any charges will be determined from the investigation,” Herndon said.
FINAL: Lanes are now open. No further updates. Drive safely.
