The popular D.C.-area restaurant Founding Farmers is preparing to bring on-site distilleries to its Fairfax County locations.
According to Fairfax County zoning records, Founding Farmers’ existing Tysons and Reston locations each plan to operate a small-scale distillery producing no more than 5,000 gallons of spirits per year for patrons of the farmer-owned restaurant.
The plans call for 12 square feet dedicated to the distillery at 1904 Reston Metro Plaza in Reston, and 16 square feet at 1800 Tysons Blvd in Tysons. There will be no separate advertising for the distillery.
Both applications appear to be pending final approvals from the county. In response to an inquiry from FFXnow, Founding Farmers said that its plans are still taking shape, and further details are not available at this time.
The two Fairfax County locations already serve a variety of drinks from spirits produced at Founding Farmers & Distillers, the company’s D.C. location on Massachusetts Avenue in Chinatown. The D.C. distillery, called Founding Spirits, touts its use of “age-old techniques mixed with modern-day expertise” for production of vodka, dry gin, bourbon, rye, rum and whiskey.
Founded in 2008, Founding Farmers operates eight locations in D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Its third Virginia location, in Alexandria’s Oakville Triangle, opened in March 2025.
