Fairfax County fans of D.C.’s Surfside will no longer have to cross the Potomac River to indulge in its tacos and laid-back beach vibes.
The Tex-Mex restaurant is set to open in McLean’s Chesterbrook Shopping Center at 6218 Old Dominion Drive tomorrow (Thursday), property owner Federal Realty confirmed to FFXnow.
Adjacent to Sweetgreen, which opened in December 2025, the approximately 1,700-square-foot outpost will be the first in Virginia for Surfside, which got its start in 2008 with a storefront in D.C.’s Grover Park neighborhood.
“We are thrilled to open our first Surfside Taco Stand location in Virginia at Chesterbrook Shopping Center,” said Bo Blair, founder and CEO of Georgetown Events Hospitality Group, which owns Surfside.
According to Blair, foodies in McLean and Arlington have become loyal customers over the years of Georgetown Events’ concepts in the District, which include Surfside, the Nantucket-themed Millie’s Spring Valley and the sandwich-and-salad shop Jetties.
“We are looking forward to bringing a new community together over our delicious food in a welcoming and casual atmosphere,” he said in a statement. “Many neighbors have been stopping by over the last few days to welcome us and we can’t wait to meet more of them starting on Thursday.”
Set to open tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., Surfside McLean will be a taco stand, rather than a full-service restaurant like the flagship in Tenleytown.
Still, its menu boasts plenty of culinary options to choose from, including tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and rice and salad bowls. Patrons looking to share among a larger party can order nacho and fajita boxes designed for up to 10 people, and kids’ meals are available for younger customers.
The drink list features beer and cocktails, including both regular and spicy margaritas, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, such as Mexican sodas and a Montego Bay punch made with coconut milk, pineapple and orange juice. Those with a sweet tooth can wrap up their meal with soft-serve ice cream, flan or tres leches cake.
Surfside will be open at 10:30 a.m. daily, closing at 9:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 8:30 p.m. on Sundays.
According to Federal Realty, the restaurant is planning a grand opening celebration in November to officially mark its arrival in McLean, but details, including a date, haven’t been finalized yet.
Mike Ennes, the senior vice president of asset management for Federal Realty, says the addition of Surfside marks “another significant step in the evolution” of Chesterbrook. On top of completing an $8.5 million renovation last fall, the shopping center has welcomed several new retailers in recent years, from fashion boutiques like Sassanova to the membership-based Small Door Veterinary clinic.
Last week, the property owner announced that the Maryland-based steakhouse Glenwood’s will open its first Northern Virginia location at Chesterbrook in 2027, likely in the fall.
“Surfside has built a loyal following in the D.C. market, and its distinctive approach to coastal Mexican cuisine adds a new dimension to Chesterbrook’s dining options,” Ennes said. “Surfside complements the center’s established restaurants and recent additions like Sweetgreen and Sorn Thai, as well as the highly anticipated Glenwood’s.”
While Chesterbrook has seen some significant turnover since Federal Realty assumed ownership in 2021, a few longstanding stalwarts remain, including the family-owned Mylo’s Grill and Chesterbrook Cleaners, which offers clothing and shoe cleaning and alteration services.
