Customizable furniture store opens first Virginia location in Fairfax Corner

A handcrafted, customizable furniture store has opened its first Virginia storefront and 19th nationwide in Fairfax Corner.

Joybird opened Oct. 9 at 11948 Grand Commons Avenue, Suite E948, in the space vacated by King Arthur Baking Company earlier this summer.

The new storefront offers customers a chance to try out the brand’s new power reclining sofas and chairs, use an interactive swatch wall with 80 different fabrics and leathers, and receive free in-person design guidance.

The brand — whose best-known collections include Barbie DreamHouse collaborations with Mattel and Pantone Color of the Year collaborations — will display in the new storefront a curated collection of Northern Virginia favorites alongside its best-sellers from across the country, including an assortment of rugs, floor lamps, throw pillows, and poufs.

Online tools, including a “3D Space Planner, Modular Sofa Builder, and 3D Room Scanner,” are also available to help customers obtain an accurate idea of what products might look like in their homes.

“The Fairfax showroom embodies Joybird’s warm, inviting aesthetic while serving as a destination for Washington, D.C. Metro and Northern Virginia residents to explore handcrafted, customizable furniture in person,” the company said in a press release.

Joybird is expected to hold a grand opening party to benefit a local charity later in the year.

The new retailer isn’t the only change coming to Fairfax Corner soon: Nando’s Peri-Peri Chicken is preparing to open its 12th Virginia location in a 3,029-square-foot space at 11941 Grand Commons Avenue, where a sign has been posted announcing that hiring is in process.

Nearby, IKEA plans to close its “plan and order point” at 4206 Fairfax Corner Avenue West, which was leased before its larger-scale store in Chantilly opened this year.

Peterson Companies, the company that developed and manages Fairfax Corner, also previously announced that local favorites Cafesano and Chateau de Chantilly will open locations at the shopping center, and the beauty chain Sephora is slated to open next year.
