Deer hunting season returns to Fairfax County, starting Saturday

Fairfax County is getting set for the return of its annual deer archery program, part of an ongoing population control initiative that will also include police sharpshooting at some parks.

Starting this Saturday, Sept. 12 through Feb. 13, 2027, licensed and trained archers will be allowed to target white-tailed deer at more than 100 properties across the county, including many parks, the Fairfax County Police Department announced yesterday (Wednesday).

BREAKING: Teen bicyclist killed in crash near Fairfax City shopping center

A teenager was killed this afternoon (Wednesday) after being struck by a truck outside a shopping center in Fairfax City.

Fairfax City police officers and a medic with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to 3985 Pickett Road at 2:32 p.m. for the crash, according to scanner traffic.

No Taste of Annandale planned for 2026

The annual community celebration has been put on hold for 2026 “due to a combination of logistical and personal issues,” organizers told FFXnow.

Reggae festival fundraiser returns to Lake Anne Plaza for fifth year

Lake Anne Plaza in Reston will be immersed in the sounds of reggae this weekend with the return of the annual Reggae on the Lake festival.

Now in its fifth year, the free festival will bring live music, crafts and Jamaican food to Lake Anne Village Center (1609 Washington Plaza North) this Saturday (Sept. 12) from noon to 9 p.m.

Report: Self-driving taxi from Tesla spotted on Fairfax County roads

Gold-colored robotaxis developed by Tesla have been spotted driving on roads in Fairfax County, specifically in the Tysons area.

Footage shared last Thursday (Sept. 3) by NBC4 Washington and its transportation reporter, Adam Tuss, showed a so-called Cybercab traveling on Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and turning into a residential neighborhood off Lewinsville Road in McLean. The self-driving vehicles appear to be collecting data on local roads and traffic.

An annual celebration promoting the D.C. region’s theater scene is returning this month with an expansion to Dulles International Airport.

An affiliate of the home builder Toll Brothers is seeking to redevelop the office building at 1902 Association Drive in Reston with 54 rear-loaded townhouses, according to a rezoning application submitted to Fairfax County on Aug. 31.

Él Bebe is out, and a brand-new restaurant with a beer garden from the Northern Virginia chain Open Road is in at The Boro in Tysons.

Open Road Outpost & Biergarten opened at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at 8354 Broad Street, taking over an approximately 5,000-square-foot space that had been occupied by the tacos-and-tequila eatery since December 2022.

Three people killed in rear-end crash on I-66 in Dunn Loring

Three people died Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) after their SUV crashed into a truck carrying oxygen tanks on I-66 in Dunn Loring.

At around 4:10 p.m., the driver of a Honda Pilot struck the rear of a truck transporting oxygen tanks that was stopped in the westbound express lanes at mile marker 64.3 near the I-495 interchange, according to the Virginia State Police.
