A fast-casual restaurant that promises to serve authentic Iraqi grilled cuisine is taking shape in Vienna.

A temporary sign appeared last week announcing that Mashahweez, a new concept from a local father-son team, is “coming soon” to the Vienna Shopping Center at 128 Maple Avenue West.

Approved Booz Allen office redevelopment will deliver half of Herndon Metro promenade

The Herndon Town Council has approved another piece of development expected to transform the Herndon Metro station area north of the Dulles Toll Road.

The council voted unanimously on April 28 to allow the office building at 575 Herndon Parkway that once housed Booz Allen Hamilton to be redeveloped with a seven-story, 525-unit apartment building.

After voiding of redistricting vote, Fairfax Dems and GOP dig in for midterm battle

The Virginia Supreme Court’s nullification on Friday (May 8) of the redistricting referendum narrowly approved by voters last month left local and state-level Democrats reeling.

The Fairfax County Democratic Committee blasted the ruling as “a stunning betrayal” of the majority of Virginia voters — including nearly 70% of Fairfax County voters — who backed the proposed constitutional amendment, which would’ve let the General Assembly implement new Congressional districts drawn to favor Democrats in 10 out of 11 seats.

Man’s Arlington abduction arrest might trigger more jail time for Reston cases

A man who pleaded guilty to two assaults committed in Reston last year could face additional jail time for those crimes following his arrest last week in Arlington.

Koby Berry, 28, was charged with assault and attempted abduction with the intent to defile by Arlington County police last Thursday (May 7) after he allegedly covered the mouth of a woman and tried to push her further into a bathroom at a Pentagon City shopping center the previous day.

Fairfax County police believe a teenager was behind the recent fatal stabbing at the Farrington Place condominiums.

The unnamed 16-year-old boy was arrested by detectives on Wednesday (May 13) and charged with first-degree murder, the Fairfax County Police Department announced yesterday (Thursday).

DOJ investigation part of ‘pattern’ of partisan attacks, Fairfax prosecutor’s office says

The Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office isn’t backing down on its policy guidance for cases involving undocumented immigrants as defendants.

A day after the U.S. Department of Justice announced it’s investigating the policy for potential civil rights violations, a spokesperson for the prosecutors’ office criticized the probe as “the latest example of the Trump Administration’s own ‘pattern or practice’ of misusing the Justice Department to launch partisan attacks.”

Comstock: Reston and Herndon never considered for casino development

Despite recent discussions regarding zoning changes in the town, Herndon has never been the target of Comstock Companies’ plans for a Fairfax County casino, the developer said in a rare public statement on the issue.

“Comstock has not proposed, pursued, or supported casino development anywhere in Herndon,” the developer said yesterday (Thursday), also denying that it has ever harbored plans for a casino in Reston.

Local “Blade Runner” fans who’ve thought the viewing experience could be improved by being more completely enveloped in Vangelis’ synth-heavy score now have an opportunity to live out that dream.

Later this year, Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi noir will screen with live music at Capital One Hall in Tysons, following up on the success of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra’s (FSO) sold-out concert in March for “How to Train Your Dragon.”

Cha Street Food launches cafe in Tysons with expanded drinks menu

As it approaches five years at Tysons Corner Center, Cha Street Food is shaking up its drink offerings with a new cafe concept.

The Pakistani restaurant will officially launch Cha Cafe tonight (Thursday) with a DJ and free drinks for the first 50 customers to stop by, starting at 7 p.m.
