FCPD: Man charged with sexually abusing boy in Woodlawn

A Woodlawn man was arrested on Wednesday (June 17) after allegedly inappropriately touching a boy in a bathroom stall, police say.

Officers were called to the 8100 block of Fernlake Court on Tuesday (June 16) at around 7:10 p.m. for a report of a sexual assault, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Emotions ran high at the Herndon Town Council’s May 26 meeting, as children and parents urged their local elected leaders to prevent the impending closure of a critical child care program.

Families were notified on May 19 that the Kids and Parents Engage (KAPE) program run by the nonprofit Cornerstones at its Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center will be shut down at the end of June, because funding will no longer be available.

Two Fair Oaks office buildings sold, with one likely becoming housing

Two office buildings on the Fair Oaks Mall campus have changed hands in a $12.5 million deal that their new owners hope will jumpstart a revitalization.

The commercial real estate firm Silverline Equities announced Tuesday (June 16) that it has acquired Greenwood Plaza and Oakwood Center buildings at 12015 and 11781 Route 50.

Pedestrian dies after being struck twice in Richmond Highway crash

A pedestrian has died after being struck by two different drivers on Richmond Highway early this morning (Thursday).

Police officers and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units were dispatched to Richmond Highway at Fort Hunt Road in Huntington at around 1:43 a.m. after one of the drivers reported to 911 that they “hit a pedestrian and then another car ran them over,” according to the police scanner.

Early voting begins in Fairfax for 2026 Congressional primary elections

Early voting has officially started in Fairfax County for Congressional primary elections that will likely be relatively low on drama after a chaotic spring saw voters narrowly approve new districts that were subsequently nullified by the Virginia Supreme Court.

The county is opening three in-person early voting sites today (Thursday), starting with the Fairfax County Government Center at 8 a.m. and followed at 1 p.m. by the Mount Vernon and North County governmental centers.

A motorcyclist has died following a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday, June 17 that fully shut down Richmond Highway (Route 1) in the Lorton area.

First responders, including police officers, medics and a helicopter, were dispatched to Richmond Highway at Mims Street at around 3:29 p.m. for a crash involving a motorcycle and a car, according to scanner traffic.

Fresh off its designation as the region’s best coffeehouse by Northern Virginia Magazine readers, Weird Brothers Coffee is brewing an expansion to Vienna.

The Herndon-based coffee roaster is working to open its first franchise shop in Windover Square at 106 Lawyers Road. Construction is now underway in the storefront previously occupied by 29th Parallel Coffee, which can still be found in Fairfax Station.

Developer Pulte Group’s plan to expand the Lofts at Reston Station with more housing is poised to secure a final approval with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors holding a public hearing next Tuesday (June 23).

The project seeks to replace three low-rise office buildings at 1810, 1825 and 1850 Samuel Morse Drive with 158 homes, including 112 condominiums across three five- to six-story buildings and 46 stacked townhouses in one four-story building. Even after seven years of review and revisions, though, it has struggled to win over its future neighbors.

Fairfax County has finally determined a reopening date for its Pennino Building following a months-long closure for flooding-related repairs.

The office building at 12011 Government Center Parkway, which houses the county’s Department for Family Services (DFS), Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) and other human services, will reopen to the public on Monday, July 6, the county announced yesterday (Tuesday).

Summer in Fairfax County means a break from school, an abundance of outdoor music options and, in recent years, the return of the spotted lanternflies.

The invasive insects started to reemerge earlier this month, but they are still in their young “nymph” stage, resembling small beetles with white spots on their black bodies instead of the larger, winged form they take as adults, according to the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES).
