The Fairfax County Police Department has arrested one suspect in a shooting that prompted an extended barricade of an apartment complex in Groveton last month.

A 27-year-old Alexandria resident identified as Isaiah Johnson was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) for his alleged involvement in a shooting at the Meadow Woods Apartments in the 3300 block of Lockheed Blvd. on June 26, the FCPD announced in a news release.

The Town of Vienna will no longer grind up fallen leaves at its collection facility on Beulah Road NE, ending a program that has delivered free mulch to residents for decades.

The Vienna Town Council voted unanimously yesterday (Monday) to turn the upcoming leaf collection season into a trial period, maintaining the Beulah Road facility as a storage site while exploring the best method for transporting leaves for disposal.

As Fairfax County explores ways to improve the flow of traffic on Dolley Madison Blvd., the McLean Citizens Association sees an opportunity to also address safety issues at the Ingleside Avenue intersection.

The residents’ group urged the Fairfax County Department of Transportation last week to consider installing a traffic signal there or at the adjacent Elm Street intersection as part of the county’s ongoing Dolley Madison Corridor Study.

Tempers ran high on the roads of Vienna during the recent Fourth of July holiday weekend and last week.

A town resident told the Vienna Police Department that, around 6:35 p.m. on July 3, a driver showed a gun after he told the driver to slow down while they were both stopped for a red light at the Nutley Street and Courthouse Road intersection.

The police officer who shot a man in McLean Thursday night (July 7), ultimately killing him, was a 10-year veteran who had received crisis intervention training, the Fairfax County Police Department said in an update on Friday (July 8).

Identified as 26-year-old Jasper Aaron Lynch, the man was holding a bottle and an object — possibly “a large decorative wooden tribal mask” — when three police officers encountered him inside a house in the 6900 block of Arbor Lane, police say.
