A new gym is slated to open soon at Fox Mill Shopping Center in Herndon, giving residents another option for fulfilling their fitness-related New Year’s resolutions.

Anytime Fitness will occupy a 6,000-square-foot space at 2551 John Milton Drive in Herndon, according to the center’s leasing website.

Local police have released additional details about this week’s crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Reston Parkway.

Peter McCandless, 87, was killed after he attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Reston Parkway at Market Street shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

A reconstruction of a Reston Parkway bridge was completed this month after a truck crash damaged it in July.

The truck took out two beams on the bridge over the Dulles Toll Road while navigating a ramp to the toll road from southbound Reston Parkway. Transportation officials closed the left lane of the road to reduce the weight on the damaged beams after the incident.

Costco is fueling up to expand its Springfield location with a new 12-pump gas station.

In a proposal submitted to Fairfax County on Dec. 15, Costco Whole Corp. says it wants to demolish a vacant, two-story office building next to its warehouse at 7373 Boston Blvd and replace it with the fueling station, which would be open for Costco members only.

Fairfax County is creating commercial profiles of different neighborhoods to guide future economic development and placemaking.

At an economic initiatives committee meeting on Dec. 12, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors discussed a place-led economic development pilot program that will provide snapshots of communities throughout the county.
