A new pilot program that aims to understand community sentiment about the Fairfax County Police Department is underway.

Through a partnership with Axon, a San Francisco-based startup, the police department is deploying a nine-month program that sends text messages to people who reach out for specific services.


For a second year in a row, ArtsFairfax will hold its annual celebration of the local arts community on Oct. 28 at Capital One Hall, which also happens to be one of this year’s award recipients.

The Tysons performing arts venue will receive the Jinx Hazel Arts Award, the top honor from ArtsFairfax, the nonprofit Fairfax County arts agency announced last Tuesday (May 17).


CitySwing, a golf facility designed for people of all skill levels, plans to open at Reston Town Center in the first quarter of next year.

The facility at 11897 Market Street will be the company’s second, joining a site in D.C.


Local Republicans nominated Karina Lipsman on Saturday (May 21) to seek the U.S. House seat currently held by Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.).

Early voting is underway for the June 21 Democratic primary to determine whether Lipsman faces Beyer or challenger Victoria Virasingh in the November general election. Portions of Fairfax County in the new 8th District include McLean, Bailey’s Crossroads, Annandale, and the Route 1 corridor.


Jollibee has confirmed that it plans to open its fried chicken chain in Chantilly some time this year.

The popular restaurant will open at 4406 Chantilly Shopping Center in space formerly occupied by Burger King.

(Updated at 11:45 a.m. on 5/25/2022) A man was rescued from North Shore pool in Reston Sunday afternoon (May 22) after a team effort. 

According to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, an older man was swimming laps at the pool when he had a medical emergency.


One person is dead, and two others have been taken to a hospital in the wake of a two-vehicle crash this morning (Tuesday) in Bailey’s Crossroads.

The crash involved Honda Accord going northbound on South George Mason Drive that hit a Volkswagen Jetta turning into Skyline Plaza, the Fairfax County Police Department said at 6:28 a.m.


Kingstowne Man Indicted for Real Estate Loan Scheme — Calling it one of the largest embezzlement cases in Fairfax County history, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced yesterday (Monday) that Carlos Camacho has been charged with 15 counts of embezzlement and four counts of forgery. More than half of the school-aged kids in Fairfax County — 53.6%, to be precise — are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

That means more than 57,000 Fairfax Health District residents aged 5 to 11 have gotten both shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine since they became eligible for it in early November, according to the Fairfax County Health Department.
