The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is preparing for the possibility of significant service reductions as part of a countywide effort to close an expected budget shortfall.

During a Park Authority Board budget committee meeting last Wednesday (Aug. 28, park officials outlined proposed cuts that could include shorter hours and fewer services at rec centers, less frequent grounds maintenance, cancellation of seasonal programs, reduced staffing and postponed facility upgrades.


Fairfax County police have filed new charges against a Reston man who was already facing sexual assault and child porn allegations.

Arturo Elmore-Adon, 25, was charged yesterday (Tuesday) with seven counts of unlawful filming after detectives found videos he had allegedly taken of four girls, all of them Fairfax County Public Schools students, the Fairfax County Police Department announced today.


Panda Express is zooming into the Town of Herndon.

The fast-food chain will take over the former Burger King drive-thru restaurant at 598 Elden Street, proposing renovations that the Herndon Architectural Review Board will discuss at a work session tonight (Wednesday).


Fairfax County’s new $58.38 million commuter parking garage in Springfield is now complete and will open to commuters starting next week.

A ribbon-cutting for the six-level facility at 7039 Old Keene Mill Road is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., with the garage officially opening to the public on Saturday, Sept. 14, per a Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) release.


One of the drivers in a two-vehicle crash that killed three people in Burke earlier this year is facing a potential fine.

The Fairfax County Police Department announced today (Wednesday) that its Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives have charged Tei Hu, 71, of Fairfax with failing to yield on a left turn in connection to the Feb. 4 crash.

Schools Start Cell Phone Storage Pilot — Fairfax County Public Schools officially started requiring students at participating middle and high schools to secure their cell phones during class. West Falls Church Homes to Be Removed — “A major stream restoration project in the planning stages is expected to reduce flooding in the Bel Air neighborhood in the Falls Church area of Mason District. Fries Chain From Canada Coming to D.C. Area — “New York Fries, a fast-food chain serving up NYC-style fries and hot dogs, has set its sights on the D.C. area as part of a larger U.S. expansion…The company hasn’t selected any local spots or franchise partners yet. A homemade ice cream parlor can set up shop in the Crossroads of Dulles after receiving approval from Herndon late last month.

The Herndon Planning Commission unanimously approved a special exception on Aug. 26 for Ice Ice Ice Cream at the office condominiums, expanding the operating hours and number of permitted seats beyond what was allowed for previous occupants.


It’s not getting its name on an NFL stadium like a Herndon-based competitor, but Navy Federal Credit Union will still make its presence felt in the community this September.

On top of organizing an annual charity 5K, the military-serving financial institution is looking to improve a wetlands area on its headquarters campus in Vienna. The project will be presented to the town’s Board of Architectural Review at an 8 a.m. work session tomorrow (Wednesday).
