USS Houston (CA-30)/POW Experience

Patrick Henry Library
101 Maple Ave E
Vienna, Virginia 22180

The USS Houston (CA-30) was a United States Navy heavy cruiser which was sunk in World War II and the few survivors of the sinking became prisoners-of-war (POWs) for the remainder of the war, many of whom were forced into labor on the ‘Burma-Thailand Death Railway’, which was famously depicted in the movie, Bridge on the River Kwai. Learn about the ship, her crew, and and what happened to them from John K. Schwarz, son of USS Houston survivor Otto C. Schwarz.
